After more than 5 years of having signed the “Code of Conduct for the Protection of Girls, Boys and Adolescents against Commercial Sexual Exploitation associated with travel and tourism”, the Hotel and Club wants to continue contributing by raising awareness of this evil and combat it through different strategies and information campaigns.
"Our intention in endorsing this initiative was not to “pose for the photo”, as they say, but to create concrete strategies that allow us to be a dynamic and active actor in the fight against the plague of child sex tourism," said César Vargas, Corporate Relations Manager.
According to Vargas, the Hotel and Club should be a flagship on this matter in the Central Pacific area, as we are in others such as the environment.
Commercial sexual exploitation, including human smuggling and trafficking, is the third most lucrative business in the world, after the illicit trafficking of drugs and weapons, according to data from the United Nations (UN).
The project for the Code of Conduct in our country began in August 2003 and has been developed in four regions of the country: The Metropolitan Area, Limón, Puntarenas and Guanacaste, where the greatest tourist infrastructure is concentrated and, therefore has a greater influx of tourism that entails an increase in possible situations of commercial sexual exploitation of minors occurring.
